Paragliding videos without a crew

Soaring High with My Insta360: Paragliding in Third Person

I already made a post about shooting my paragliding adventures. This video was made using the amazing Insta360 editing app. It applied filter and video effects to the video.

I am still amazed by the 360 camera capabilities.

Imagine the thrill of paragliding, the wind rushing past, the earth sprawling beneath you in a tapestry of colors and shapes, all captured from a perspective that feels almost cinematic.
Without having a crew. My husband was also up in the air at the same time, but he doesn't have any souvenir of it shot in 3rd person perspective. He only has dull videos from the Gopro his instructor shot.

Here's how I managed to pull off breathtaking third-person views without the need for a crew, just me, the sky, and an ingenious piece of technology.

Check out the video below:

The Setup

Before taking to the skies, I equipped myself with the Insta360 One RS, a compact 360-degree camera that's perfect for adventurers.
The beauty of this camera lies in its ability to capture everything around you, giving you the freedom to choose your perspective post-flight.

- Mounting the Camera: I attached the camera to a flexible selfie stick which I could hold.
This setup allowed me to have the camera at various distances from my body, ensuring a dynamic range of shots. Using the extended selfie stick is not recommended there, the longer the stick, the more difficult and heavy to handle.
You can see here, just a standard simple invisible selfie stick did the job.

- Settings: I chose to record in 5.7K 360 video mode, providing the highest resolution possible for post-flight editing. The camera's stabilization was set to 'FlowState' to counter the inevitable vibrations and movements associated with paragliding.

The Flight

As I soared above the landscape, the Insta360 captured every moment in 360 degrees:

- Shots from Below: By simply pointing the selfie stick under me, I could capture myself from below. A view that even a drone wouldn't be able to capture.

- Changing Perspectives: The magic of the Insta360 is its ability to reframe shots after they've been taken. I could swing the selfie stick around me, capturing myself in flight from various angles. This meant I was essentially my own camera crew, able to pivot from a first-person view to a third-person perspective with ease.

Post-Flight Magic

Once back on solid ground, the real fun began:

- Editing: Using the Insta360 app, I could reframe my footage. I could tilt, zoom, and shift viewpoints to create a narrative flow.
As shown in another video, I could also use the existing Insta360 video effects to add a professional touch to my videos.

- Stabilization: Even with the 'FlowState' stabilization in action, some fine-tuning was necessary to ensure smooth, cinematic footage.

My take

Using the Insta360 while paragliding transformed what would have been an ordinary adventure into a visually stunning experience. It's not just about capturing the moment; it's about sharing it in a way that invites others into your world, from your unique third-person perspective.

For anyone looking to capture their adventures in a new light, I highly recommend exploring the capabilities of 360 cameras like the Insta360. They are the best in this field.

So, next time you're about to take to the skies, consider how you can share that experience not just as you see it, but how others might want to see it too. Happy flying!
